OPENAI KISSES BLARNEY STONE

OpenAI announced the company was setting up a new office in Dublin and has nine roles to fill. Aside from a handful of payroll and customer-focused roles, the company is hiring for an associate general counsel for the EMEA region; a policy and partnerships lead for global affairs; a privacy program manager; a software engineer focused on privacy; and a media relations lead.

The paint is barely dry on the walls in the London office where OpenAI currently employs ten people. However, Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon said OpenAI needed to have an EU-based office to ensure that they could access talent and support customers that they already had in the region: ”Ireland blends a talented workforce with support for innovation and responsible business growth. We’re excited for this partnership as we expand in Europe.” London and Ireland? Aren’t they close? What’s really behind this move?
